This museum space aims to preserve, study and promote the heritage of the Lines of Torres Vedras as a military defensive system which led to the Napoleonic army’s retreat from Portugal during what came to be known as the 3rd French Invasion. This was one of the most important episodes in the Peninsular Wars.
Situated in the historic centre of the town of Sobral de Monte Agraço, once the setting for one of the fiercest skirmishes between the allied troops (Portuguese and English) and French soldiers – the Battle of Sobral.
CILT actively participates in the management of the Lines of Torres Vedras Historical Trail (RHLT), with direct responsibility for the Alqueidão Circuit. From here, it is also possible to follow the Wellington Trail and obtain further information about the other RHLT trails.
