Nossa Senhora da Purificação

This little church of ancient foundation retains its Manueline portal (Portuguese late Gothic) and its panels of hand painted tiles from three eras: Sevillian and Hispano-Moorish tiles, seventeenth-century figurative panels and “Pombalinos”.

On the third Sunday of August are the festivities in honour of Our Lady of Purification, which involves the entire village population and promotes sociability with neighbouring villages.

Outside, seize the opportunity to show your children one of the few remaining sun clocks (or sundials), devices that tell the time of day by the position of the sun.
