TORRES VEDRAS CASTLE

All that we can now see of the medieval castle are the Romanesque remains in the Church of Our Lady of the Castle and the oval enclosure. In the 16th century, during the reign of Manuel I, the castle was adapted to accommodate firearms and the keep was demolished and replaced by the new Bailiffs’ Palace.

Situated in the heart of the old town, it was modified for artillery and integrated into the First Line of the defensive system.
