This notable Baroque collection of buildings includes the Archbishops’ Palace, the Town Church, the Town Fountain and the Aqueduct – all, unusually, in a very rural setting. IT was constructed, or remodelled, in the 18th century by the king’s Italian architect, António Canevari, who moved to Portugal to build the “Águas Livres” aqueduct in Lisbon.
